Develop Your Working Ranch Skills at the V6

Join us for the Spring Cowboy Academy which is held on the majestic grounds of the V6 Ranch in Parkfield California. Our 20,000 acre working cattle ranch is conveniently located half-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Cowboy Academies (Spring and Fall) offer riders a true western working ranch experience. The activities are designed to help improve your horsemanship and working knowledge of cattle and ranch skills. Some guests bring their own horse, some choose to ride one of the many V6 Ranch horses who are trained to ride with all levels of rider experience.

You'll have the opportunity to take scenic trail rides, gather cattle, develop your roping skills and arena work. In addition, we work on a wide variety of ranch skills such as team sorting, ally and rodeo sorting and ranch obstacles courses. All geared to provide a truly unforgettable cowboy experience.

There is more than ample room for campers, living quarters, stock trailers and vehicles. Some guests prefer to stay at the Blue Oaks Horse Camp "Bunkhouse" or the nearby Parkfield Lodge.  Please check availability in advance.

The fee includes: camping, all meals, clinics, activities, as well as a limited number of horse corrals (by reservation). The V6 Ranch will serve a delicious home cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, as well as beer and wine at special dinners. Meals may be served during rides, in camp, or on the trail.

The “Blue Oak Horse Camp” is a spacious campground setting nestled in beautiful oak trees. Travel trailers, campers and tents are acceptable. RV patrons may use generators. Electricity is available at the common area of the camp for all riders' use. The campground features shower and bathroom facilities with hot and cold running water. Participants must provide their own sleeping quarters, unless a bunkhouse rental is booked separately. There are 30 water hook-ups available on a first come, first served basis.

The Parkfield Lodge is located about 2 miles from horse camp and across the street from Parkfield Cafe. It has 9 rooms available. The rooms vary in size and the number of guests they accommodate. Please check the V6 Ranch website to see which room best suits your needs. These rooms typically fill up fast, so we recommend booking early. Call 805-463-2421 to reserve.

Horse Camp Facilities:
The V6 Ranch will be offering 45 - 10' x 15' portable pipe corrals for horses. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to reserve one. Participants can also bring their own portable corrals, or horses can be trailer tied or high lined between trees. Hay will be available for purchase but it is recommended that you bring your own.

April is generally mild. California has some very warm afternoons (possibly in the high 70's), accompanied by some cool nights (down to the chilly 30's). However, weather conditions can be unpredictable, so be sure to prepare for all types of conditions. We suggest you bring a warm jacket, gloves and a fleece pullover so you are prepared for any sudden weather change. You may want to bring a light blanket for your horse as well.

Rental horses:
20 horses are available for riders not bringing a horse with them, reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis. The 50% Deposit Option payment schedule is 50% deposit due with registration form, which will hold your place on the ride; the remaining balance is due by March 1, 2022.
