Jack Greenlaw’s Post Office, 1920

History

In 1905, Frank Kester and his team of 14 horses drug this building to where it sits now. After it was placed, the colorful character Jack Greenlaw lived here and served Parkfield’s postmaster. At the turn of the 20th century Parkfield was a bustling town with a population of around 900 people. In 1920 this building was one of two post offices serving the town.

Parkfield maintained its own Post Office until 1954 when the population had dwindled down. Following the closure of Parkfield’s last post office, Parkfield mail starting arriving via the Cholame Post Office. The postboxes in this room were originally from one of Parkfield’s post offices and were moved to the Cholame Post Office until it closed down in the 1990s when the mailboxes made their way back to where they sit now. Today Parkfield’s mail is delivered to the mailboxes across the street, via the San Miguel Post Office.
